This is great!!!
It was a bit like that for us growing up, my Dad has 4 brothers and 2 sisters.....now, 1 brother is a JW (since the 70's), 1 sister is a JW (disfellowshipped but still attending), 1 sister is a devout Mormon, another brother was a member of the Church of God (another strange denomination).....the rest are sane.
The discussions and disagreements that went on were so funny, just imagine how they felt when my Mormon auntie's daughter married a 'faded' son of JW's !!!!!
The dub ones were pretty tight-lipped and embarrased about that, but still found satisfaction in that my Mormon-raised cousins joined the Army......

if you were granted a wish to change wt's worst features, what would you want changed?

1) The subtle domination of rank and file by untrained, unqualified men.
2) The domination of men over women, not only in the organization but in their mindset of day-to-day living.
3) The subtle mind control techniques that invariably fuck-up the minds of all JW's, young and old......how hard was it to adjust to normal thinking !!!!!!!
4) The focus on destruction of all who don't follow this "Jehovah and his earthly organization". The negative, deathly mind-set cleverly shrouded by a belief in a future paradisaic, love-filled earth.
5) The requirement that your blood-family no longer comes before all else, and the way they influence the mind to put theocracy before true family. This was one of my major turn-aways, how could a 60 year old man with no connection whatsoever to me tell how un-important my brothers and sisters are, and how I should treat them/view them. No one tells me how to think or live......

I remember about 2 or 3 years back we had a single brother as our CO, he was around 35-40 years old and had come into the Truth when he was in his 20's. He had done our circuit 2 times before he seemed to just vanish into thin theocratic air, a week or so after having lunch with him and my then-girlfriends mum and discussing the life, sacrifices and rewards of being a CO and what my ambitions/goals were for the future....
No one I spoke to had seen or heard from him in a few weeks, except for the elders in the know who, looking back at it now, were really vague in explaining where he was and said he was serving in a small congregation in the South Island...It all seemed fairly dodgy to me at the time, and it still does when I am bothered to think of all the fucked up things that went on in the Truth.

what argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?
where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?
i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.
Well, I'm really glad now that I can wear a skirt and boob-tube without getting funny looks from the C/O when he's delivering his talk directed at Local Needs:Dress and Grooming.... I was always pissed that girls weren't allowed to wear pant suits etc, could never see the sense in it myself......My girlfriend wore one to work, and was tempted to wear it to the meeting as well but mother superior put a stop to that
i'm just curious to know where my parents register on the scale of strictness...
growing up, i felt absolutely smothered by my parents (mostly my mother).
the things i couldn't do were above and beyond the limitations put on the other young people in our hall.
